Pass the Texas Journeyman Electrician exam
Since March 2025 the exam has been two separately timed portions, and since 1 September 2026 it references the 2026 NEC. Most prep material still describes one 80-question exam on the 2023 code; this bank was written for the current format.

How licensing works in Texas
TDLR issues the journeyman license; PSI runs the exam. You qualify with 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a Texas-licensed master electrician, and you may sit the exam once you reach 7,000 hours. The application fee is $30 and the license renews every year.
There is no statewide amendment layer. Cities may amend the code locally, so the exam tests the NEC as written. Our bank flags the one Texas-specific carve-out, 210.8(F) for HVAC GFCI protection.
The one thing candidates get wrong: preparing for a single 80-question exam on the 2023 code. Since March 2025 the two portions are passed or failed on their own, and 110 minutes for 26 calculations is a different pace from the old single sitting.

What makes Texas different
The calculations portion is scored on its own
24 scored items in 110 minutes. Our bank keeps a separate calculation pool with worked steps for every item.
Edition notes on every question that changed between 2023 and 2026
Renumbered sections and new rules such as 300.4(C) get a note under the explanation, so the 2023 habit is named before it costs you the item.
300.4(C), new for 2026, requires conductors and wiring methods that are no longer suitable for use because of damage (overheating, fire, corrosive influences, or water) to be replaced. The 2023 NEC had no replacement mandate.
The dashboard reads 'Texas · TDLR / PSI · NEC 2026'
Pass likelihood is predicted per portion, so you know whether it is the knowledge sitting or the calculations sitting that needs the next week.

Exams taken on or after 1 September 2026 reference the 2026 NEC; before that date PSI used the 2023 edition. Every WorkUgo question is audited against the 2026 edition and carries a note where a section moved or a rule changed.
NEC Knowledge is 59 questions (56 scored) in 130 minutes. Calculations is 26 questions (24 scored) in 110 minutes. Each portion is scored on its own, you need 70% on each, and unused time does not carry over.
One soft-bound copy of the NEC: no loose-leaf binder and no NEC Handbook. Highlights and notes must be added before the session and only publisher tabs are allowed. Bring a silent, non-programmable calculator.
Yes. Unless a question says otherwise, conductors are copper, and code exceptions are ignored unless the question tells you to apply one. Our questions follow the same conventions.

Yes. 149 of the 648 questions are calculations, kept in a separate pool that mirrors the 24-item portion. Each carries a worked solution with the code reference for every step.
Every explanation ends with reference pills such as 'NEC 2026 · 230.70(A)(1)'. Where the 2026 edition renumbered a section, the edition note gives the 2023 location as well.
Yes. Questions are tagged to the PSI domains, and Practice lets you build a set from any domain, difficulty or the questions you flagged. Progress lists mastery by domain, weakest first.
Each portion is passed or failed on its own, so you re-sit the portion you did not pass. A retake costs $78 and TDLR sets no limit on attempts. Time from one portion never carries into the other.
